ALEX ANDREWS, Flute

Alex Andrews Alex has taught flute lessons in the Band Lesson Program since 2002. She holds a BA in Human Development from Colby College, and developed and taught a music theory curriculum as part of an accelerated middle school program in coastal Maine. Alex played with The Solar Wind Duo for 5 years, a classical/jazz flute & piano duo in Florida, performing regularly at The Jupiter Hilton, The Epicurean Restaurant in Palm Beach and many private social functions, and continued teaching flute lessons privately and at Palm Beach County Community College. She currently plays principal flute in the Lincoln-Sudbury Civic Orchestra (since 1990) and has taught flute since college, both privately and through the Arts Alliance.

Alex founded Apple Country Music Together where she has taught and directed since 2000. In 2007, she was elected to the Music Together Directors Leadership Group. She is a member of the Early Childhood Music & Movement Association, Children’s Music Network and Hudson Cultural Council. She and her husband are the proud parents of two children who can be seen and heard periodically in many Hudson schools and Arts Alliance music and theatre programs. PHILIP ANDREWS, Percussion

Phil Andrews Philip has been teaching with the Arts Alliance since 2009. He holds a M.M. in Percussion from the College-Conservatory of Music in Cincinnati OH, as well as a B.M in Percussion from the Hartt School in West Hartford, CT. As someone who began taking piano lessons at age 7, he knows that it is often at these early stages that people find and develop a love for music. This is why he enjoys teaching this younger age group and seeing their improvement from lesson to lesson.

When not teaching lessons, Philip maintains an active performing schedule as a freelance percussionist. He often gets called on to play for symphony orchestras such as Clafflin Hill Symphony, Pioneer Valley Symphony, New Britain Symphony, and Wallingford Symphony. He spends much of his time playing in pit orchestras for theater groups in the area, such as Calliope Productions, Monomoy Theater on Cape Cod, Emerson Umbrella Center for the Arts, Shirley Arts, Theater at The Mount, Theater With a Twist, and others. JANE BAILEY, Clarinet

Jane Bailey Jane has taught classroom and instrumental music and private clarinet lessons in different locations, including Hudson for several years. It is really exciting for her to see young students starting to learn an instrument that might possibly give them a lifetime of pleasure. Jane started playing clarinet in the Concord Mass Schools in fourth grade and instantly loved it! She participated in everything available during her school career-District and All State Bands, Greater Boston Youth Symphony, New England Conservatory Youth Orchestra, New England Music Camp, in addition to clarinet lessons with Manuel Valerio of the Boston Symphony.

Upon high school graduation, she attended Eastman School of Music and received her B.M. in Music Education from Hartt College of Music. She plays in the Concord Orchestra and Hudson's Symphony Pro Musica, in addition to playing in pit orchestras for musical shows.

MICHELLE DRAPEAU, Clarinet, Saxophone, Trumpet

Michelle Drapeau Michelle has been teaching in the Hudson Public Schools since September 2006, running the middle school bands as well as acting as a co-coordinator of the Band Lesson Program. She holds a Bachelor of Music in Music Education from the University of Rhode Island, with a concentration in clarinet performance, and a Master of Music in Music Education from Boston University.

Michelle feels fortunate that she’s able to pursue music as a career as well a hobby. She just completed her fourth season performing with the River's Edge Community Band in Hudson, MA, as a member of the first clarinet section. Michelle also played with The American Band of Providence, Rhode Island in their 2009-2010 season. You also may have seen her play clarinet in the last four HBO Faculty Recitals right here in Hudson!

KASEY GALLIGAN, All Instruments

Kasey Galligan Kasey has been Curriculum Coordinator for Performing Arts in Hudson since 2008. He holds a Master's in Music Education from Boston University and has been directing bands and teaching in the Massachusetts public schools for the past 15 years. While Kasey has taught students from kindergarten to high school, his main focus has been elementary and middle school instrumental music at Concord Public Schools, Waltham Public Schools and Needham Middle School. His private students have been placed in district and All-State bands, jazz bands, and orchestras, and some have moved on to become musicians and music educators.

Kasey originally comes from northwest Connecticut, but now lives in Natick with his wife and two young sons. His interests include sports, cars, listening to and playing a wide array of music, repairing instruments, working on his house (his older son describes him as a "good fixer and finder"), and toiling diligently as the commissioner of his fantasy baseball league.

PHIL GRENADIER, Trumpet

Phil Grenadier Born in San Francisco, trumpeter Phil Grenadier hails from a musical family. His father shared his passion for the trumpet, his brother Larry turned to bass and his brother Steve developed a love for guitar. The Grenadier brothers grew up playing music together, starting in their home, school band and various other bands before graduating to such renowned festivals as The Monterey Jazz Festival, The Russian River Jazz Festival and The San Francisco Jazz Festival. At 16 Phil entered his professional music career, performing in San Francisco as a sideman in the jazz, commercial and recording worlds alongside such famed artists as Ella Fitzgerald, Mel Torme, George Shearing, Tony Bennett, Carlos Santana, James Brown, Sammy Davis Jr., Dionne Warwick and Steve Smith's Vital Information.At the age of 17 both Downbeat magazine and California Music Educators Association voted Phil "Best Jazz Soloist.”

In 1988 Phil moved to New York City to soak up inspiration from some of the greatest musicians in the world. Phil was invited to teach jazz trumpet at The Mannes College of Music, and recorded for Blue Note Records and Koch Jazz Records. In 1995 Phil relocated to Boston where he plays, travels, records and teaches. He has released two CD's as a leader , "Sweet Transients" and "Playful Intentions", for Fresh Sound/New Talent. In addition, Phil has appeared on 50 CD's, recording with such artists as Kenny Barron, Larry Goldings, Larry Grenadier, etc. In 2007 Phil toured across Europe, South America and the United States with John Scofield, alongside bassist Steve Swallow and drummer Bill Stewart, which recently culminated in a sold out performance at NYC's Carnegie Hall.

KRISTINE KIRBY, Flute

Kristine Kirby Kristine is thrilled to be returning for her second year with Hudson’s outstanding music program. She has taught flute to all levels of students since 1995, including programs at the Atrium School, Watertown, Blanchard School, Boxboro and Brimmer & May School, Brookline. She also maintains a thriving teaching studio at her home in Concord. Kristine’s classical training began in Rochester, New York, where she pursued musical studies with Eastman School of Music faculty and members of the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra. In Boston, she expanded into jazz and improvisational music, and more recently, she has studied both classical and jazz styles with noted instructors through New England Conservatory’s Continuing Education department.

Kristine played with the Thayer Symphony Orchestra from 1999-2004 and was also a member of Tufts University Flute Ensemble. She serves regularly in the pit orchestra for community musical theatre productions and frequently participates in a variety of community musical events. An active freelance musician, she is one half of the “Alla Breve Guitar and Flute Duo”, performing regularly with her husband, guitarist Steven Kirby. You will also find Kristine providing services for musical colleagues at Spectrum Music in Lexington.

Arnie Krakowsk

ARNIE KRAKOWSKY, Clarinet, Saxophone

This is Arnie’s fourth year teaching in Hudson. He has been teaching woodwinds since he left the Berklee College of Music in 1971. He loves getting young kids started on an instrument and watching them progress.

He also plays 200 concerts a year throughout the US and Europe. Over the last 40 years he has worked with the legendary Ray Charles, Tony Bennett, the Artie Shaw band and others. He has produced two CD's as a leader and can be heard on numerous recordings. Arnie lives in Westwood, MA and when he is not teaching or playing concerts he enjoys being with his wife, two sons and two granddaughters.
