Behind the Mask Theater present: Cat Mountain

Cat Mountain tells the story of Sho, a young servant girl, who journeys to a strange and far-off mountain, where she hopes to find her freedom and her lost cat. But as the people she meets on the way tell her – “No one has ever returned from Cat Mountain!” Puppetry, dance, masks, and Japanese theater-styles all combine in Behind the Mask's original adaptation of this magical folktale.

Music Around the World with Dennis Waring

A performance that encompasses a tour through the music of six different cultures. Musical instruments, each unique to the culture represented, are demonstrated and discussed in regards to points of history, social studies, science and art. Participants will gain a working knowledge of musical instruments, history, song and instrument play representative of Native Peoples, Latin America, Africa, India, China, and folk music of the U.S.A.

Gerwick Puppets present: Adventures from Thornton W. Burgess

Adventures from Thornton W. Burgess is adapted from the nature stories of New England's wildlife written by the popular Massachusetts children's book author. Learn about the habits and habitats of some common New England animals through such classic characters as Unc' Billy Possum and Old Mother West Wind. Gerwick Puppets of Southborough has presented shows for over 30 years to well over a million viewers. In the 2 pm workshop to follow, students can learn about puppet voice and manipulation. Students may bring their own puppet or borrow one from the artists.

Bob Bloom, Drumming About You

Bob Bloom, certified Master Teaching Artist by the Connecticut Commission on the Arts, opens with a 1 pm instructional drumming workshop for youth age 10 to 14, followed by an interactive drumming concert at 2 pm for an intergenerational audience featuring students from the workshop, as well as a Finale with instruments for the whole audience to participate.

Alison Lee Freeman, Music from the Great Age of Sail

Alison Lee Freeman is a 21st century chantey singer with an extraordinary voice easily heard over gale force winds. In performance the vivacious balladeer mixes traditional songs of the sea with newly renovated folk songs. The engaging 1 pm performance will inspire audiences of all ages. At the 2 pm workshop to follow, learn about the life of a sailor, and how sailors used song in their everyday lives.
