Art Rocks!

We are currently seeking area artists to paint original work on Hudson Rail Trail boulders.
Submissions will be accepted on a rolling basis.

Submission Process:

1. Artwork must be a naturescape which features animals or plant life indicative of the Hudson Rail Trail area.
2. Artwork must be appropriate and able to be viewed by all ages.
3. Submitted artwork does not have to be a finished piece. Color, black and white or pencil drawings are fine.
4. High school through adult aged artists may submit work.
5. Mural paint, brushes, and any other material needed will be supplied through local artist Mike Correa who is managing the project based on follow through of the Hudson Pathways Project. Mike will bring materials to location as well.
6. Location can be picked by artist through a discussion with Mike or provided by committee.
7. Art Rocks! committee will select artwork based on criteria and design.

arrow  What is Hudson Pathways?
Hudson Pathways is a collaborative public art project designed to celebrate one of our areas newest assets through the creation of murals, markers and exhibits along the Assabet River Rail Trail. Students will create interpretive art that depicts the past and present of their local environment. With continued funding, this project will take place over the span of three years. The anticipated projects include:

  • Art on the ARRT: A rotating three-season exhibit of student work relating to the historical significance and natural surroundings of the Assabet River Rail Trail will be attractively displayed on six kiosks already along the trail.
  • Rail Trail Section Markers: Original designs by students of six animals native to the local area, will be used to identify six sections of the trail. These markers will become an easy way for all to identify the section of the trail they are on.
  • 290 Connector Tunnel Mural: Working with local muralists, students will plan, develop and create a mural designed to capture the essence of a circa 1900 train ride when as many as 36 trains a day served Hudson.
  • Cellucci Park murals: Murals will be placed on the utility box, bocce court and skateboard bowl.
  • Animal Art Rocks: Rocks designed and painted as the animals representing sections of the trail to add interest and further identify each section, planned as service learning projects.
  • Walking tours: Developed and led by Historical Society members and students as community service learning activities.
  • Railroad artifacts refurbished: Additional artifacts will be installed near the caboose along with signage to become an interpretive historical park area, other signage along the trail as needed.

Who is involved in Hudson Pathways?
Hudson Pathways is made possible by funding from the Sudbury Foundation, Avidia Bank, as well as individual donations. The River's Edge Arts Alliance is working with the Hudson Recreation Department, Historic Society, ARRT, Inc., Hudson Police Department and Hudson Public Schools to develop Hudson Pathways.
