Signs of Summer All Summer Long at Citizens Bank.

The theme for the Arts Alliance’s latest visual art exhibit is “Signs of Summer.”

Although the Arts Alliance organizes shows at this bank all year long, this is the first time the exhibition time will be for 4 months – until September 24. All are welcome to also view the work during the Citizens Bank’s new hours:   8:30 am - 4 pm on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays; 8:30 am - 6 pm Thursdays and Fridays; and 8:30 am - 12 noon Saturdays.

The wheelchair-accessible exhibit is located at 17 Pope Street, next to Hudson Town Hall, 3 blocks from the rotary. There is no admission fee. This exhibit is made possible through the support of the Massachusetts Cultural Council, as administered by the Acton-Boxborough, Berlin, Bolton, Clinton, Hudson, Marlborough, Northborough, Southborough and Stow Cultural Councils.

Celebrating Youth Art 05.28.2010 thru 06.06.2010
Downtown Hudson will be brightened by visual art done by K-8 students attending Farley, Forest Avenue, JFK Middle, Hubert Kindergarten, Mulready, and St. Michael, as well as Arts Afterschool, an Arts Alliance program, thanks to community-minded merchants who loan use of their windows for the annual exhibit. Organized by Barbara Worrest, program director of the Arts Alliance, the colorful community-wide exhibit is intentionally scheduled to help usher in the Assabet Valley Chamber of Commerce’s Hudson Community Fest. So between May 28 and June 6, take a stroll along Main and Washington Streets and admire the talent of young budding artists and the strong visual art programs our community should be proud of!

Yesue Memorial Concert 06.16.2010
Rumored to be one of the best-attended events in Hudson’s Wood Park 2010 Summer Concert Series is the annual Yesue Memorial Concert. This year’s outdoor event, beginning at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 16, will feature Sousa marches, a range of Latin and South American music and symphonic wind band classics by the River’s Edge Community Band, as well as a collection of spirituals and American folk songs sung by the River’s Edge Chorale and Pro Musica Youth Chorus.

Folding lawn chairs, blankets, picnics, and bikes are encouraged. Parking is limited. Rain location is nearby at the Hudson High School, 69 Brigham Street and will be decided by 2 p.m. on Wednesday. Call the Arts Alliance at 978-562-1646. Food and drink are not permitted in the wheelchair-accessible auditorium, but are welcome at the outdoor venue.

The three groups will perform both singly and collectively. Participants hail from many area communities. The River’s Edge Community Band conductor is Jason P. Caron. River’s Edge Chorale director is Paul Johnson of Hudson. Pro Musica Youth Chorus director is Jan Patterson.

There will be an art exhibit on display around the perimeter of the park of work by Arts Alliance members. Both the concert and exhibit are free with donations appreciated. The Arts Alliance is pleased to be able to provide performance opportunities for talented area musicians and singers, as well as quality performances for the public to enjoy, so close to home. This outdoor concert series is organized by the Hudson Division of Recreation, which offers free weekly concerts. Do not miss a wonderful evening with local people who are neighbors and friends.

River's Edge Players Auditions 06.17.2010 and 06.18.2010
Auditions for Timely Musical about Water Conservation – June 17-18

Area adults are invited to participate in an award-winning musical with messages about environmental responsibility, corporate mismanagement and petty small town politics. An hilarious tale about when water is worth its weight in gold, the story imagines a future where citizens are charged fees for using public facilities regulated by a single monopoly. It is about capitalism, corruption and, yes, even love.

Auditions are Thursday, June 17 and Friday, June 18 from 7 to 9 pm at Hudson High School, 69 Brigham Street. Call backs, if needed, will be June 19. Headshots and a resume are welcome, but not required. Anyone trying out should have a song prepared and bring the sheet music. There is some dancing in the show. Director is Sarah Worrest of Hudson. Musical director is Alexandre Abdoulaev of Jamaica Plain. For more information call the Arts Alliance at 978-562-1646.

Performances will be presented Friday, August 13 and Saturday, August 14, at Hudson High School. “Urinetown” is a dreadful title, but a socially responsible story that teaches us what the future could bring if environmental sensitivity is not implemented now. Its music and lyrics are by Mark Hollmann, with book and lyrics by Greg Kotis. “Urinetown” was produced on Broadway in September, 2001. It was nominated for 10 Tony Awards and won Best Book and Best Score.

URINETOWN
is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI).
All authorized performance materials are also supplied by MTI.
