Children's Theater

Travel back to the legendary, storytelling days of ancient China. The Huns have invaded and it is up to Mulan and her mischievous sidekick Mushu to save the Emperor! Meet Mulan’s ancestors in this heartwarming celebration of culture, honor and the fighting spirit. This play is based on the 1998 Disney animated feature film Mulan. Note: The workshop moves to Marlborough Middle School, 25 Union Street, Marlborough for production week July 14 - July 18.


Creative Theater Workshop

The Taming of the Shrew

An intensive classical theater experience, this William Shakespeare comedy has been adapted to musical theater in the play Kiss Me Kate, and into the popular movie Ten Things I Hate About You. Creative Theater Workshop is in its 6th year; past performances include other works by Shakespeare such as Much Ado About Nothing, As You Like It, The Tempest, Twelfth Night and A Midsummer Night’s Dream. This is the first time this program has been offered during the summer!

Both workshops are designed to introduce theater to children for exploration and enjoyment. Students use creative
movement, singing and games in preparation for harnessing their imaginations to perform a small play on the last day of the session. Both workshops are similar in format but present different plays. The play is selected based on student enrollment. Participants may sign up for one or both sessions.

Stage Two
for students entering grade 1 - 5

Performance August 8, 1 pm, Hudson High School.

This workshop gives participants the opportunity to sample all aspects of theater as they adapt a story to write their own play. Guided by staff, creative opportunities abound as participants practice writing and acting skills, and consider costume and set design issues while staging the play that they themselves develop.


Theater Tech
or students entering grades 8 & up
Instructors: Nan Kaipainen Gibbons and Nicholas Cooper
Workshop begins: June 23 and concludes July 17 Fee $175
Time: M - Th 1:30 pm - 4:30 pm, Hudson High School Auditorium, 69 Brigham Street.

This technical workshop will be an intensive, hands-on experience in a range of key aspects of theatrical design and tech.  Students will consider the issues of color, texture, composition, theme and collaboration necessary to the creation of scenic, lighting and costume designs to help tell the stories of the summer productions of Anything Goes, Disney’s Mulan Jr. and How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. We will also focus on the issues of time, cost, safety and technique required to successfully bring those designs to life. Being available for all performances appreciated, but not necessary. Disney’s THE AristoCats KIDS

Performance: July 11, 1:30 pm at Hudson High School, 69 Brigham Street.

Madame’s jealous butler Edgar cat-naps Duchess and her Aristokittens, abandoning them in the Parisian countryside. Luckily the Alley Cats, a rag-tag bunch led by Thomas O’Malley come to their rescue. This feline adventure includes a toe-tapping jazzy beat and is based on the 1970 Disney film The Aristocats. “Ev’rybody wants to be a cat! Note: The workshop begins at the JFK Middle School in Hudson, and moves to Hudson High School for the last two workshop days, JULY 10 & 11, as well as the performance.


Youth Theater

Performance: July 25, 1:30 and 7:30 pm and July 26 7:30 pm at Hudson High School, 69 Brigham Street.

With a magical Cole Porter score the excitement begins with the New York sailing of an ocean liner bound for England. During the trip the ship’s reporters are intrigued by the celebrity evangelist Reno Sweeney and her Angels, and by the notorious gangster, Number One on the Most Wanted List, reported to be aboard. Romance and shenanigans abound as young stowaway Billy Crocker and the baronet Sir Evelyn vie for the attentions of the lovely Miss Hope Harcourt. Terrific songs include: Anything Goes, It’s De-Lovely, I Get a Kick Out of You and Let’s Misbehave.
